What Umfeld is, what happens when it syncs with Google, where your data sits, and what it costs. The longer answers live on their own pages; this is the short version.
Getting started
What is Umfeld?
A personal CRM for friends, family, and professional contacts. It remembers how you know someone, what you last talked about, and who in your circle knows whom. There are no pipelines, no deals, and no lead scoring.
Who is Umfeld not for?
Sales. If you move opportunities through stages and need close rates, a sales CRM will serve you better.
Do I need a Google account?
Yes. Sign-in runs through Google, and Google Contacts supplies the base data for your contacts. Without a Google account there is currently no way in.
Syncing with Google
Do I have to upload my contacts anywhere?
No. Umfeld reads them once on the first sync and keeps them current after that. From then on only changes travel across.
Does Umfeld write back to my Google Contacts?
Only for two actions. Base data flows from Google into Umfeld, not the other way round. But if you delete or merge a contact in Umfeld, that is applied in Google too, because otherwise the next full sync would restore what you removed. That is why Umfeld asks for write permission at sign-in.
Do my notes end up in Google?
No. How you met, the interactions, the notes, and the relationship graph stay in Umfeld only. Google never sees any of it.
There are no custom fields
The fields in Umfeld are fixed. You cannot define your own. That is a deliberate decision, not an open item on the roadmap.
Data and security
Where is my data stored?
In Europe. Umfeld is operated by von Reyher Media UG (haftungsbeschränkt), a German company based in Berlin.
Can the AI see my private notes?
No. Notes and relationships marked private are excluded from AI access and from the MCP server, and never appear in an answer.
Is there two-factor authentication?
Sign-in runs through Google only, so the second factor on your Google account protects your Umfeld account as well. Umfeld does not add a prompt of its own at sign-in.
How do I delete my account?
In the settings, without a support ticket. Deletion cascades through every table: contacts, interactions, notes, the graph, and the stored Google tokens. Your Google address book is left untouched.
Pricing and billing
What does Umfeld cost?
€6 a month or €60 a year. Both options include every feature.
How does the free trial work?
7 days, with a card on file. Cancel before it ends and nothing is charged.
Is there a permanently free tier?
No. The daily background sync costs money to run whether or not you open the app. The longer reasoning is on the pricing page.
What happens if I cancel?
Your access runs until the end of the period you paid for. You don't lose it the moment you cancel.
Technical
Can I self-host Umfeld?
No. Umfeld is a hosted service only. There is no Docker image and no way to run the application on your own infrastructure.
Is there an iOS or Android app?
No. Umfeld runs in the browser, including on a phone. A native app is not part of the product.
How do Claude or ChatGPT reach my data?
Through an MCP server that Umfeld exposes for your account. The AI client queries your contacts, notes, and graph directly. Setup instructions per client are on the Connect your AI page.
